Senior DevOps Engineer at Accenture

Košice, Slovakia

About

I'm a senior DevOps engineer at Accenture in Košice. Most of my work is cloud infrastructure and automation: Azure, Kubernetes, Terraform and CI/CD pipelines.

Before Accenture I spent almost nine years at IBM. I started there as a fullstack developer and moved into DevOps, which is the part I like most: automating things so a team can build and ship faster.

I studied artificial intelligence at the Technical University of Košice. I like macOS and working in the terminal. Outside work I swim and play games.

Private cloud operations

> IBM · Swiss client · 2018–2022

I joined this project to learn DevOps from its lead architect. When he moved on, I became its only DevOps engineer, responsible for more than 50 SLES Linux servers on a private Swiss cloud.

I automated builds and deployments in Bamboo and moved server installations to Puppet. I designed a framework for managing and monitoring the machines and keeping them safe from unauthorised changes, and wrote Bash scripts for risk assessment and fixing issues.

I also planned the work: a roadmap for improvements, epics and user stories for each sprint, and the coordination with the client's security and network specialists.

Outcome

  • One DevOps engineer for more than 50 servers.
  • Installations managed by Puppet; builds and deployments automated in Bamboo.

Azure and Kubernetes migration

> IBM · Swiss client · 2022–2025

The same client ran on a private Swiss cloud and built in Bamboo. I led the move to Azure and Azure DevOps, running it in pilot mode within the company's guidelines, and coordinated with the other teams to fix bugs and keep everything integrated.

Once we were on Azure, using its PaaS and SaaS services, I proposed moving to Kubernetes to cut costs and gain flexibility, guided the migration and ran knowledge-sharing sessions on it. The infrastructure is Terraform, with a secure landing zones framework built in.

Outcome

  • Migrated ahead of schedule.
  • About $150k a year saved by rightsizing servers and removing unused resources.
